Unlocking the Third Sector: Delivering the Transition from Civil Service to Civil Society

At a time of shrinking budgets and increasing service demands, the coalition Government has outlined a number of key commitments on front-line public service delivery and the role of the third sector. Central to the Government's political vision is Big Society – the relinquishment of excessive governmental control over the delivery of public services and putting power back into the hands of people and local communities.

This symposium offers a timely opportunity for the third sector, local authorities and key stakeholders to consider how to deliver the Government's vision for transforming public services through a radical transition from civil service to civil society. The symposium will:

  • Examine how to cultivate a thriving environment for the third sector through changes to commissioning, procurement and future funding streams
  • Assess how to unlock the third sector at every level
  • Discuss how the third sector can deliver public services at greater scale, providing value for money and innovative solutions
  • Explore how to stimulate partnership working to deliver tailored solutions to local problems and overcome public spending cuts
