Ubuntu & FCDL Conference: Black Perspectives within Community Development
Celebrating and Creating Possible Futures
Through identification of specific needs and issues around Black perspectives, FCDL and members set up Ubuntu as an interest group in the '90s, aiming to ensure that Black perspectives of community development were disseminated across the membership of FCDL.
Ubuntu is a Swahili concept that expresses the belief that “people are people through other people”.
Due to the changes internally and externally to FCDL, Ubuntu has not been active for some time. However, through discussion amongst founders and FCDL staff, an action plan has been identified to look at the relevance of Ubuntu, by establishing a working group and planning of March 2011 event to explore and celebrate Ubuntu’s past and future.
The event is for:
Black and Minority Ethnic Community Development practitioners. This includes anyone from such communities who work with and within community groups and networks to support inclusive, participative work based on the principles of social justice and equality.
