Town centres in peril: what can we do?

This is the latest in the series of CLES think time events. These short 2 hour sessions aim to provoke stimulating and inspiring discussion and debate. Each event takes the format of a high level round table discussion, with a focus on sharing and debating views and opinions with like minded colleagues on a range of policy themes.

The growth of out of town shopping combined with the effects of the recession and associated reduction in spending power, has meant that many of our town centres and district shopping areas are in decline. Vacant properties are all too common and many businesses report reducing profits and decreasing footfall. With a return to pre-recession buoyancy unlikely, we need to create new positive identities for our town centres in the short-term and build new economic resilience in the medium to long term. This think time will explore how we can re-think, re-shape, use and plan our town centres.

CLES and New Start subscribers can book free places; there is a booking fee of £25 plus VAT for non-members. To find out more and book the event visit the CLES website.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to take a step back from your everyday work and think and discuss the challenges you face with others from across the sector.
