Community Empowerment - Active Citizenship

What does active citizenship mean, why is it important to policy makers and communities and how does it link to community engagement? How can we encourage and support people to be active citizens? How can we move to a more energised, authentic democratic society?

This course builds upon the Take Part Network National Framework for Active Citizenship and explores:

  • essential values and principles of active learning for active citizenship
  • key processes and outcomes on the journey to active citizenship
  • how participants can put the Learning Framework into practice

This one day course is aimed at:

  • Practitioners working in community development, engagement and participation, citizenship education across and beyond communities at local, regional and national levels
  • Policy-makers in local, regional and national government
  • Staff, board members and volunteers from the community and voluntary sectors
Examples from around the country will be used to demonstrate the successful outcomes of this approach in a wide variety of contexts.
